Terracotta 3 - Light Pressed into Earth

90 x 90 on Stretched Canvas

As part of the terracotta series, the third piece Light Pressed into Earth. The material of terracotta and the desert landscape of the UAE come together in this piece. Terracotta is clay in its most honest form, shaped by hand, transformed by fire, and warm with the color of the ground it came from. The desert holds that same earth at a vast scale, reshaped by wind and changing light.

A deep burgundy ground, close to iron-rich earth at dusk, surrounds a central block in rose and terracotta tones. The block shifts from light to dark, like a dune face turning into shadow or a fired surface holding the memory of heat. The paint's texture echoes the grain of sand and the matte quality of clay.

At the heart of the work is stillness: a calm centre in a dark, quiet landscape, and a place for the viewer to pause.
